Ads Arrive on ChatGPT

OpenAI is set to introduce advertisements on its AI-powered chatbot ChatGPT for the first time, aiming to boost revenue to offset the high costs of technological development, the company has said.

According to a report by the news agency Reuters, advertisements will be rolled out on a trial basis in the United States within the next few weeks. The initial phase will cover free users and subscribers to the low-cost “Go” package, with ads shown on a limited scale.

OpenAI clarified that these advertisements will not influence ChatGPT’s responses, nor will users’ conversation data be shared with marketers under any circumstances.

No advertisements will be displayed for users of the more expensive Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise packages. The company also confirmed that users under the age of 18 will not be shown any ads.

Analysts note that with around 800 million active weekly users, advertising could become a major source of income for OpenAI. However, they caution that if the ad experience proves unsatisfactory, users may migrate to alternative platforms such as Google’s Gemini or Anthropic’s Claude.
