Digital Lottery for School Admissions on 11 December
The digital lottery for admission to government and non-government schools from Class 1 to Class 9 will be held on 11 December, according to Professor Dr. Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, Director of the Secondary Wing at the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE).
He said that online applications opened on 21 November and will remain available until 5:00 pm on 5 December. Only those selected through the digital lottery will be eligible for admission.
According to DSHE, for the 2026 academic year, admissions will take place in 4,048 educational institutions across the country—688 government schools and 3,360 private schools. Together, the total number of vacant seats stands at 1,193,281, of which 121,030 are in government schools and 1,072,251 in private schools.
As of 25 November, 260,244 applications had been submitted for the 121,030 seats available in government schools, with applicants listing 375,728 preferences.
Meanwhile, for the 1,072,251 seats in private schools, 98,762 students had applied, submitting a total of 180,862 preferences. DSHE has not yet released any updated figures beyond this date.
