Kona Crafts Card Customization for Islami Bank
Kona Software Lab Ltd., a leading payment and security solutions provider, has successfully implemented the Kona Card Personalization System (K-CPS) for Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, one of the country’s largest commercial banks.
As the first client of K-CPS, Islami Bank will now be able to issue EMV debit, credit, and prepaid cards under the local national card scheme ‘Taka Pay,’ along with global networks such as Visa, Mastercard, and UnionPay International, through this world-class EMV card personalization system.
To celebrate this milestone in Bangladesh’s payment and fintech sector, a ceremony was recently held at The InterContinental Dhaka, attended by representatives of Bangladesh Bank, Islami Bank, and other leading industry stakeholders.
For the first time in Bangladesh, such a modern and promising card personalization system has been launched through the efforts of local Bangladeshi software engineers at Kona Software Lab. This achievement is expected to reduce dependence on foreign assistance, save time, and conserve foreign currency.
Kona’s Chief Business Officer, Siraj Siddiqui, said: “Through K-CPS, Kona Software Lab has proven that Bangladesh is no longer just a consumer of foreign technology. We are now creating world-class solutions through local innovation and support. We are optimistic about this achievement. We believe this initiative will play a vital role in shaping the future of digital payments in the country.”
Congratulating Kona, Islami Bank, and other partners for implementing the country’s first CPS, Bangladesh Bank’s Executive Director, Arif Hossain Khan, remarked: “This achievement has infused new hope among us; at the same time, it has laid a strong foundation in the journey toward a cashless Bangladesh.”
Mosharraf Hossain, Executive Vice President and Head of Islami Bank’s Digital Banking Wing, emphasized how Kona SL’s solution has impacted their experience during the event.
Building on this success, Kona Software Lab has planned to establish a card manufacturing plant and personalization bureau. Additionally, it intends to introduce its own Card Management System and internationally compliant tokenization services.
Kona Software Lab believes these initiatives will further strengthen Bangladesh’s payment ecosystem, ensure secure issuance of digital cards, and enhance banks’ ability to deliver modern payment services. The company is also working to provide complete technological solutions to several digital platforms in Bangladesh, including NexusPay, Nagad, and Rainbow.
