Following Chattogram and Rangpur, the Dhaka regional round of the World Robot Olympiad Bangladesh (WROBD 2025) was held on Thursday, August 28, at United International University (UIU) with the participation of nearly one hundred students. The competition, divided into three groups, showcased innovative robotic solutions developed by young participants. A total of 27 teams with about 100 participants competed in this round.
In the Future Innovators Senior Category, winners included the three-member team ‘Saf.AI,’ the two-member team ‘Soralabs,’ and the two-member team ‘Roboro.’ In the Junior Category, the winning teams were ‘Yantrajoddha’ (3 members), ‘Cyber Squad’ (2 members), ‘Dumb Potatoes’ (3 members), and ‘Operation Void’ (3 members).
In the Elementary Category, the two-member team ‘Mechatrones’ won, while in the Robo Sports Category, the three-member team ‘Tech Autocrats’ emerged victorious.
The Dhaka round was graced by Professor Dr. Hasan Sarwar, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering, as the chief guest, and UIU Professor Khondkar Abdullah Al Mamun as the special guest. Professor Mamun announced the winners and distributed prizes at the end of the event.
The panel of judges included Md. Ifraham Iqbal, Ahmed Junayed, Md. Siam Bin Rashid, Md. Mushfiqur Rahman, Tanvir Shakil, Md. Zidan Talukder, Abdullah Al Masud, Md. Abid Hossain, and Fahim Hafiz. Mentors, coordinators, and volunteers of WROBD were also present to oversee the overall arrangements.
This year marks the first time the Olympiad has been organized at the regional level. The winners from the three regions will advance to the national round scheduled for September.
Organizers confirmed that this year’s World Robot Olympiad Bangladesh Regional will feature competitions across categories such as Future Innovators, Future Engineers, RoboMission, and RoboSports. These will be divided into three age-based divisions: Elementary (8–12 years), Junior (11–15 years), and Senior (14–19 years). In the Dhaka regional round, 27 teams participated in the Future Innovators category (11 senior teams and 10 junior teams), two teams in RoboMission (one junior and one senior), and 12 senior teams in the Future Engineers category.
The Olympiad is jointly organized by World Robot Olympiad Bangladesh (WROBD) and Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN), with The Business Standard as the media partner. The World Robot Olympiad (WRO) 2025 will take place in Singapore this November, where the Bangladesh national team will compete. Since 2020, Bangladesh has participated regularly in the WRO, achieving consistent success each year. Additionally, a series of activation workshops have been held across the country’s eight divisions to raise awareness of robotics and encourage student participation in the Olympiad.
