Own Opens: New Decentralized Social Platform Launches

Just two days before the deadline for the sale of TikTok’s U.S. operations, a new decentralized social media platform named Own was launched, aiming to ensure global creators earn income, according to TechCrunch.

The app features conventional tools such as short videos, text posts, photos, and messaging, while integrating blockchain technology and a tradable token called Own. Creators can start earning simply by participating on the platform, without any follower or post count requirements.

Own’s founders include Amir Kaltak (CEO), Katia Zaitseva (COO), and Sarah Mick (CCO), the former head of design at Tinder and Bumble.

Through a Layer 2 blockchain, Own guarantees content ownership, allowing creators to monetize their content licenses. Via Own Shop, creators can generate higher earnings compared to traditional platforms through sales, brand sponsorships, tipping, and licensing.

The app is currently available for download on iOS and Android. Nearly 40,000 users are already on the waitlist.

Own announced that token-based earning features will be fully activated in the third quarter (July-September), and the Own Shop beta version will open in the final quarter (October-December).
