From Karail slums to Armenia: A success story of Tamanna, a student at Jaago Foundation School
Tamanna, a 17-year-old gifted student from Jaago Foundation School, is going to United World College, Dilijan, Armenia on a scholarship. This fully funded scholarship is sponsored by the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. In 2011, Tamanna got admission in Jaago Foundation Banani School and passed this year's SSC examination with GPA-5.
Hailing from an underprivileged community, Tamanna has always been one of the brightest and most talented students at Jaago Foundation School. At just 16 years old, Tamanna along with 11 of her classmates participated in the International VEX Robotics Competition held in the United States. Last year, Tamanna went to Turkey to participate in the OIC High School Model Summit 2022 as a representative of Bangladesh.
Tamanna said, “I still can't believe that I am going to study abroad. Since childhood, I dreamed of traveling the world and learning new things and always tried to work towards fulfilling this dream. It is a matter of great joy and pride for me and my family to see that dream come true. I am thankful to everyone including Jaago Foundation who have supported me in this journey.”
At the threshold of starting this new chapter of her life, Tamanna's goals become clearer to her. Tamanna wants to use the opportunities she has had to create similar opportunities for others and work towards the overall development of women in underprivileged communities. This scholarship is an example of her unwavering determination and remarkable resilience.
Karvi Raksand, founder of Jaago Foundation, said, “Education is the key that unlocks the door to a brighter future. When our students achieve something extraordinary, then not only their dreams just fly; rather the desire for an entire community take wings. Together, we are writing a new story of possibility.”
Since 2007, Jaago Foundation has been working to ensure quality education for the underprivileged children of the society. Currently, Jaago Foundation has schools all over Bangladesh and they are educating more than 30,000 children.
