Oct 26, 2026 16:35

Stepping in to break the ongoing administrative and academic stalemate at the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), a six-member high-level advisory committee formed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) is set to hold multi-stakeholder consultations with faculty, students, administrative officers, and campus staff.

The advisory panel will conduct an on-site visit to the CUET campus on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, to engage directly with institutional groups, record their grievances, and evaluate the ground realities behind the protracted suspension of class activities. An official circular notifying all relevant university bodies was issued by the Public University Management Division of the UGC on Monday, 26 October.

According to the published itinerary, the committee will conduct its first consultative hearing with university faculty members between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM. This will be followed by a two-hour session with the student body from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Subsequent post-lunch rounds have been allocated for administrative officers from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, concluding with technical and operational staff representatives from 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM.

The high-powered committee was constituted on 19 October following formal directives issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education on 18 October, mandating immediate steps to restore routine pedagogical operations at the engineering institution. UGC Full-Time Member Prof. Dr. Mohammad Abdullah-Al-Mamun heads the six-member fact-finding and advisory body.

During the mission, the delegation will evaluate institutional representations, review administrative logs, and cross-examine outstanding issues hampering regular academic life. The panel has been tasked with drafting concrete recommendations and governance benchmarks to facilitate the immediate resumption of classes and stabilize the campus learning environment.
