Ryans Launches Starlink Kit Orders Amid Mixed Reactions

Ryans, a leading supplier of computer and IT products in Bangladesh, has begun accepting orders for Starlink internet kits through both its official website and physical stores. The company announced on June 30 (Monday) that although orders are now open, deliveries will commence from July 10.
According to Ryans, as an authorized retailer of Starlink in Bangladesh, customers can choose and place orders for the satellite-based internet kits through its website or outlets, with additional support available from the customer service team.
Sadequl Akkas Shuvo, an official from Ryans, stated, “This initiative will play a crucial role in improving internet services in the country’s remote and underconnected areas. It will also contribute to the realization of a tech-driven Bangladesh, where every citizen can enjoy advanced and uninterrupted internet access.”
Starlink, developed by SpaceX, offers high-speed broadband internet through an advanced satellite network. However, the launch has sparked mixed reactions among users in Bangladesh. Critics argue that excessive promotional efforts are overshadowing the limitations of the service in the country’s socioeconomic context. They claim that rather than building local technological capacity, Starlink is increasing dependency on foreign private entities.
Some internet service providers have raised concerns that Starlink is being granted unfair advantages, potentially threatening local entrepreneurs and national security. They further alleged that since the service reportedly bypasses local International Internet Gateways (IIGs) for bandwidth, many users are exploiting it for banned activities, including online betting.
