WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform owned by Meta, is working on a new shortcut button in the chat attachment menu to improve user convenience. With this update, users will be able to browse and share recently viewed, saved and liked Instagram Reels directly from within a WhatsApp chat without switching to another app.

Testing of the new feature has already begun in the latest Android beta version, v2.26.42.9.

Dedicated Button in the Attachment Menu and How It Works

Until now, sharing a Reels video on WhatsApp required users to open the gallery or media picker and select the video from the relevant section. With the new update, a separate button labelled ‘Reels’ will appear directly in the chat attachment menu.

However, users must link their WhatsApp accounts to Meta’s central Accounts Centre to access this feature. Those who prefer to keep the two apps separate can continue using WhatsApp normally without linking their accounts, but the dedicated shortcut will not appear in their chat interface.

Beta Testing and Planned Rollout

The feature is currently being tested with a selected group of Android beta users through the Google Play Store. Following the testing phase, it is expected to be rolled out gradually to general users worldwide.

According to technology analysts, Meta’s move will make the exchange of information and content between instant messaging platforms and social media services easier and more seamless.
