After nearly nine years and numerous delays, Tesla has finally announced the official date for unveiling its much-anticipated second-generation “Roadster” electric supercar. In a post on X featuring the caption “Go For Launch” and a graphic marked “10.01,” the company announced that the event will take place on October 1.

The teaser hints at a special “cold gas thruster” technology developed in collaboration with Elon Musk’s rocket company SpaceX, which could help the car hover slightly above the ground.

Design Changes and Earlier Controversy

Since the first prototype was unveiled in November 2017, the car has been the subject of considerable controversy due to its prolonged delays. Last year, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed frustration on social media after failing to receive the car more than seven and a half years after placing a $50,000 booking. Musk responded by claiming that Altman had been refunded the money.

According to recent reports, Tesla has completely scrapped the original 2017 design and redesigned the Roadster from the ground up.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously confirmed that even after the official unveiling and demonstration on October 1, it could take at least another 12 to 18 months for full commercial production of the car to begin.
