180 primary students win nationals, gearing up for IMSO Indonesia
BdMSO 2026 Held Simultaneously Across Four Cities
- 180 winners selected from 800 participants nationwide
- Online national camp scheduled for August 11-20
- Finalists to represent Bangladesh at 23rd IMSO
Dhaka: The national round of the Bangladesh Mathematical and Science Olympiad (BdMSO) 2026 was held on Saturday simultaneously across Dhaka, Chattogram, Rangpur, and Sylhet. Out of nearly 800 primary school participants across four major regional hubs, 180 winners were declared.
The Dhaka segment at St. Joseph Higher Secondary School saw 128 winners out of 552 candidates. Additionally, 27 won in Chattogram, 13 in Rangpur, and 12 in Sylhet. Following the morning assessment tests, participants engaged in interactive sessions featuring sumo-bot fights, puppet shows, and cultural events. Munir Hasan, President of SPSB and BdOSN, attended as the Chief Guest alongside Special Guest Brother Leo James Perera, CSC.
Mariam Akter, a fifth-grade student from Chowdhury Para Government Primary School in Baniachong Thana, Habiganj, and a national-level winner in Sylhet, stated this was her first time participating in such an Olympiad. She gained an extraordinary experience and is very happy to have received an award. She is very enthusiastic about the subsequent stages.
Her father, Sheikh Abul Mansur Ahmad, said, “We never imagined that my daughter, coming from so far and as a student of a government primary school, would receive an award. This indicates that the Olympiad’s result process is very transparent. We also really liked the gifts given to the children at the Olympiad. The children were very happy to receive them. The organizers were very sincere. We thank them very much.”
Last year, Bangladesh's 12-member team achieved 100% success at the 22nd IMSO held in Malaysia, winning 2 silver and 10 bronze medals.
An online national training camp for the 180 winners will run from August 11 to 20, 2026, followed by team selection tests on August 21 and 22. The selected qualifiers will represent Bangladesh at the 23rd International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) in West Java, Indonesia, scheduled for October 2–7, 2026.
