Fakir Mahtab Anam, Minister for Post, Telecommunications, Information Technology, and Science & Technology, has called upon mobile network operators to reduce call drops and review data package pricing to make them more affordable.
Addressing the audience, the Minister stated, "I am hammered every other day about two things—call drop and data packages. There is a huge complaint about this. Along with the business issues, I hope you consider public demand and customer satisfaction to create a win-win situation. While making profits, operators must also look after the subscribers of Bangladesh."
He made these remarks as the chief guest at the launch of "Digital Inclusion for Marginalized Communities – Phase II," organized by Grameenphone on Thursday, July 30, at Hotel Sheraton in Banani, Dhaka.
The event was attended by Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman, BTRC Chairman Major General (Retd.) Md. Emdad Ul Bari, high-ranking government officials, and industry stakeholders.
The Minister added, "Under the leadership of honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Bangladesh advances on its development journey towards an ambitious target of a $1 trillion economy by 2034. Digital inclusion is therefore not merely a social responsibility; it is an economic necessity." Highlighting that Phase I reached over 3.3 million people, he urged corporate entities like Grameenphone to further assist marginalized groups—including transgender individuals, persons with disabilities, and rural communities—while expanding network connectivity to remote, non-commercial regions across the country.
