A guidance seminar titled "Guidance Seminar on the JSPS Program and Research Funding Opportunities" was held at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) to inform faculty members about Japanese fellowships and international research grants. The event was organized by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) in collaboration with the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).
The seminar took place at the Professor Mohammad Sharif Hossain Gallery in the Kazi Nazrul Islam Academic Building on Sunday, July 26, 2026. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Abdul Majid attended the event as the chief guest.
During his address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Abdul Majid stated, "JSPS provides over two thousand post-doctoral fellowships and grants annually to researchers worldwide. However, due to a lack of accurate information and low application rates, very few researchers from Bangladesh have utilized these opportunities. This seminar will help young researchers learn more about higher education prospects."
He added that the goal is not merely going abroad, but returning to serve the nation with advanced technologies and research cultures acquired in Japan.
Speaking as a special guest, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan noted, "This seminar ensures our young faculty members do not fall behind due to a lack of information. Our ultimate vision should be creating a world-class research-friendly environment in Bangladesh." Treasurer Professor Dr. Mohammad Faruque Hossain also spoke as a special guest.
Professor Dr. Mirza Hasanuzzaman from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University presented the keynote paper. Presided over by Bangladesh JSPS President Professor Dr. A. K. M. Nowsher Alam and moderated by IQAC Additional Director Dr. K. M. Anisul Haque, the welcome address was delivered by IQAC Director Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam. Deans and faculty members from various faculties were present.
