TikTok Launches Search Guide for Flood Updates

To promote safe and information-based awareness, video platform TikTok has launched a new search guide designed to provide accurate and reliable information regarding flood situations. Through this guide, users in Bangladesh can stay updated on monsoon flood conditions while countering fake news and rumors spread during natural disasters.

On Sunday, July 26 TikTok officially confirmed the integration of this search guide into its platform. As a result, searching for flood-related content will directly lead users to credible information sources.

Whenever a user searches for flood-related topics on TikTok, an in-app banner will prompt them to verify details through trusted sources. The guide links users directly to reliable entities, such as the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) of the Bangladesh Government. Additionally, links to TikTok’s Safety Center and the Tragic Event Support Guide have been integrated to assist with mental health awareness.

The framework provides clear instructions on what constitutes a tragic event—such as natural disasters or accidents—and outlines responsible practices for sharing or reporting such content on the platform.

Speaking on the initiative, Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for TikTok South Asia, Ferdous Mottakin, said, "In emergencies, quick and accurate information is critical. Collaborating with organizations working directly on disaster response enables us to present essential information clearly to our users, helping everyone stay informed and safe."

TikTok aims to build a digital space where users can access verified facts, care for their mental health, and practice responsible online behavior.
