Italy Interested in Bird Control Technology for Bangladesh Airports
Italy has expressed interest in introducing a Bird Control Management System for Bangladesh’s airports and establishing a training academy to enhance the skills of Bangladeshi aviation technicians. The issues were discussed during a meeting between the Italian Ambassador and the Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister.
Italian company The Edge Company has expressed interest in introducing a Bird Control Management System (BCMS) for airports in Bangladesh. Another Italian firm, Flyon Aero, has also shown interest in establishing a training academy to enhance the skills of Bangladeshi aviation technicians.
The interest was conveyed by Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro during a courtesy meeting with Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday (June 22).
During the meeting, both sides emphasized strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Italy. The ambassador thanked Bangladesh for the contribution of nearly 250,000 Bangladeshi workers to the Italian economy.
The minister highlighted the need to increase flight frequency on the Dhaka-Rome route to facilitate Bangladeshi expatriates. In response, the ambassador assured that necessary steps would be considered.
Afroza Khanam expressed Bangladesh’s interest in working jointly with Italy to further develop the country’s civil aviation sector. The two sides also discussed the possibility of foreign investment in airport expansion projects under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Earlier, the minister also met representatives of Singapore-based SATS. During the meeting, the company expressed interest in providing ground handling services at the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The minister invited the company to submit a formal proposal through the appropriate process and assured that it would be duly considered.
