BTCL’s MVNO SIM Set for March Market Launch
The Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) SIM operated by state-owned Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) is set to be commercially launched in the market from March 1 following a successful trial phase.
This information was confirmed on Saturday, February 14, by Raonok Tahmina, Public Relations Officer of BTCL. She stated that on February 8, provisioning-related call tests for key services of the MVNO SIM—including voice calls, data calls, ‘Alap-to-mobile,’ ‘Alap-to-Alap,’ and GPON integration—were successfully completed.
Although some media outlets had reported that the SIM would be launched on February 15, 2026, the final commercialization date has been set for March 1 due to unavoidable reasons and to facilitate proper piloting of the MVNO service.
Earlier, after completing all technical tests, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser of the interim government on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, visited BTCL’s Gulistan and Ramna offices on February 3 to inspect the SIM’s operations.
On that day, he announced that four key stages—voice call, data connectivity, ‘Alap-to-mobile,’ and GPON integration—had successfully passed live testing. He emphasized that this was not merely a paper declaration; rather, the SIM’s capabilities were verified through real activation. He also indicated that live tests would formally begin from February 8.
Regarding commercial operations, BTCL has previously revealed plans to offer affordable smartphones on installment, allowing customers to purchase devices at a monthly payment of Tk 500.
With the upcoming launch, BTCL aims to strengthen its footprint in the telecom sector by introducing competitive MVNO services to consumers across the country.
