In a message congratulating Nahid Islam, Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), for his party’s success in the 13th parliamentary election, Chief Adviser of the interim government Muhammad Yunus lauded the young political leader’s courage, determination, and leadership.

The information was disclosed on February 14 by Senior Assistant Press Secretary Faiz Ahmad. The congratulatory message was also published on the Chief Adviser’s official Facebook page.

In his message addressed to Nahid Islam, the Chief Adviser stated that the National Citizen Party’s participation in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election under his leadership—with courage, resilience, and confidence—would be remembered as a significant chapter in Bangladesh’s democratic history.

He highlighted that as a newly formed political party born only a year ago in the wake of the mass uprising of 2024, contesting in 30 constituencies, securing victory in six of them, and mounting strong and respectable competition in several others constituted an extraordinary achievement.

According to the Chief Adviser, this success is not merely a matter of electoral statistics; rather, it reflects the confidence, aspirations, and democratic spirit of the younger generation. Recalling the turbulent days of the 2024 uprising, he noted that Nahid’s leadership, bravery, and indomitable resolve had helped guide the movement in a disciplined and goal-oriented direction. The sacrifices and steadfast stance of his fellow activists, he added, have instilled a deep sense of gratitude in the hearts of the nation. He expressed personal respect and appreciation, as well as gratitude on behalf of the nation.

Yunus further mentioned that having Nahid Islam as a colleague in the Advisory Council for a period was a valuable experience. During that time, he said, Nahid’s professional competence, subject-matter depth, principled firmness, and eagerness to understand administrative processes left a lasting impression.

Emphasizing the broader democratic context, the Chief Adviser remarked that democracy flourishes when new voices emerge, fresh ideas gain space, and bridges are built between generations. The party’s swift rise within such a short span demonstrates that the people of Bangladesh—particularly the youth—are ready to place their trust in principled and ideology-based politics. Preserving that trust, he stressed, is now a major responsibility for the party.

He added that through their parliamentary representation, the NCP now holds a historic opportunity to articulate the hopes and aspirations of the people, especially those of the younger generation. He expressed hope that under Nahid’s leadership, the party would contribute to strengthening and institutionalizing democracy through constructive, reasoned, and responsible political practice.

Concluding his message, the Chief Adviser observed that today’s achievement signals even greater responsibilities ahead. The transition from a path of struggle to mainstream politics, he said, must safeguard ideals and values—an expectation shared by all. He ended by praying for Nahid Islam’s good health, longevity, and overall well-being.
