Dr Yunus Thanks Jamaat Ameer for ‘Dignified’ Role in 13th Parliamentary Poll
Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, has extended congratulations and appreciation to Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, for achieving what he described as a respectable outcome in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
In a message posted on his official social media handle on Saturday, February 14, the Chief Adviser addressed the Jamaat Ameer, saying, “I sincerely thank you for ensuring the active and widespread participation of your party’s candidates under your leadership in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, for engaging in firm competition, and for subsequently accepting the election results in a calm and dignified manner.”
Professor Yunus noted that from the campaign period through the post-results phase, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman’s political decorum, restraint, responsible statements, and appeals to party workers to remain peaceful played a significant role in maintaining overall national stability.
He also expressed special thanks for the constructive support, advice, and cooperation extended by the party during the tenure of the interim government.
The Chief Adviser observed that Bangladesh is currently passing through a crucial phase. In the context of global economic shifts, technological transformation, climate change, human resource development, and social justice, the country faces numerous challenges and opportunities. In such circumstances, he said, strengthening democracy in a more participatory and institutionally robust manner requires responsible and principled roles from both the government and the opposition.
“I expect that under your leadership, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will play an active role as a constructive and responsible opposition force in the National Parliament and the broader political arena,” he said. He added that healthy and positive political culture should be fostered through principled debates, legislative consultation, representing public expectations, and ensuring state accountability.
Professor Yunus further expressed his firm belief that the Jamaat Ameer would continue his past role in consolidating national unity in the days ahead. “National unity is our strength,” he remarked.
Concluding his message, the Chief Adviser prayed to Almighty Allah for Dr. Shafiqur Rahman’s good health, long life, and overall well-being.
