NVIDIA Invests $2 Billion in Synopsys to Power Next-Gen AI Design Tools
NVIDIA has invested $2 billion in chip design software maker Synopsys as part of a multi-year strategic partnership aimed at developing new AI tools for designing products used across various industries. The move follows NVIDIA’s recent investments in OpenAI, Anthropic and others, further strengthening the company’s dominance in the artificial intelligence market, according to Reuters.
Synopsys software is widely used to design complex products—ranging from aircraft engines to computer chips. While simulations for such designs typically take weeks, NVIDIA’s graphics processing units (GPUs) could reduce that time to just a few hours, the companies’ CEOs said. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang noted that this acceleration will unlock new possibilities.
The agreement is non-exclusive. Synopsys CEO Sassine Ghazi said that NVIDIA’s funding will help optimize Synopsys’ software for NVIDIA chips, but the investment does not require them to purchase NVIDIA hardware. He added that companies like AMD or Intel could also become partners if they wish.
Following the announcement on Monday, Synopsys’ share price rose nearly five percent, while NVIDIA’s increased by about one and a half percent.
