DUET Press Panel Picks New Leadership

The Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET) Journalists’ Association, known as DUETJA, has formed its Executive Committee for the 2025–26 term. In the newly announced committee, Mahtab Hossain Dolon, a student of the Civil Engineering Department, has been elected President, while Monir Hossain of the same department has been appointed General Secretary.

The positions of Senior Vice President and Vice President have been assigned to Shihab Uddin of the Industrial Production Engineering Department and Civil Engineering students Saifur Rahman Sabbir, Poran Hossain, and Hridoy Hossain, respectively. Rakibul Islam, campus correspondent of Bangladesh Chitra and Alokito Shokal, has taken charge as Organizational Secretary.

Other appointments include: Office Secretary Asif Akash, correspondent of The Daily Campus; Treasurer Sakibul Islam of Guardian Bangla News; and Sports Secretary Tarikul Islam of Songbad Live24.com.

Md. Riyad Hossain of Daily Bangladesh has been selected as Publicity and Media Secretary, while the position of Assistant Publicity and Media Secretary has been given to Abdul Kader of NPBNews.com. The role of Library Secretary has been assigned to Jobayed Hossain, correspondent of Amar Campus.

The Executive Member positions will be held by Sabbir Hossain Jisan, Md. Imam Uddin, campus correspondent of DigiBanglaTech.news, and Md. Shariful Islam.

The new committee was announced on Friday, 14 November, during the “DUETSAS Half Decade Celebration and Reunion 2025” event by Habibur Rahman, outgoing President and a student of the Computer Science and Engineering Department.

The new leadership is expected to play a vital role in enhancing journalistic standards on campus, strengthening students’ soft skills, and promoting accurate and impartial news reporting, according to stakeholders.

The event was attended by DUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Zainal Abedin as the Chief Guest. Special Guests included Director of Student Welfare Professor Dr. Utpal Kumar Das, DUETSAS founding president Engr. Al Mahmud Raj, former president Engr. Latif Gazi, as well as journalists from various media outlets and current association members.
