CUET and CDA Collaborate on Chattogram Metropolitan Master Plan
The Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) and the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) have signed an agreement to collaborate on the vetting of the “Chattogram Metropolitan Master Plan” project. The signing ceremony and discussion meeting took place on Thursday, September 18, at the CDA conference hall.
The event began with a discussion on the Metropolitan Master Plan project, followed by the formal signing of the agreement appointing CUET as the vetting consultant.
On behalf of CUET, Dr. Fauzia Gulshana Rashid Lopa, Head of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, signed the agreement, while CDA was represented by Deputy Chief Town Planner and Project Director of the Master Plan Project, Planner Md. Abu Isa Ansari. The session was chaired by CDA Chairman Engineer Md. Nurul Karim.
From CUET, attendees included Acting Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Professor Dr. Kazi Afzalur Rahman; Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning and Team Leader of the Master Plan Vetting Project, Professor Dr. Muhammad Rashidul Hasan; Registrar (Additional Charge), Professor Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir; Director of BRTC, Professor Dr. Badius Salam; Professor of Disaster Engineering and Management, Dr. Maruful Hasan Majumder; former Department Head and Deputy Team Leader of the Vetting Project, Debashish Roy Raja; Associate Professor of URP, Dr. Ishrat Jahan; and Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, Shyamal Acharya.
Representing CDA were Secretary Rabindra Chakma; Special Magistrate (Joint District and Sessions Judge) Md. Nazrul Islam; Chief Engineer Kazi Hasan Bin Shams; Superintending Engineer A. A. M. Habibur Rahman; Superintending Engineer Mohang Monjur Hasan; Town Planner Md. Zahir Ahmed; Senior Architect Md. Golam Rabbani Chowdhury; and Town Planner Sayeed Fuadul Khalil Al Fahmi, among others.
At the beginning of the event, Project Director Planner Md. Abu Isa Ansari presented a comprehensive overview of the Master Plan on behalf of CDA. In response, Professor Dr. Muhammad Rashidul Hasan of CUET outlined the manpower structure, expertise, and work plan for the vetting project.
Speaking on the occasion, CUET Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Kazi Afzalur Rahman said, “We are confident that the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at CUET will complete this vetting work with dedication and expertise. We believe this will play an important role in ensuring the sustainable development of Chattogram metropolis. We hope the joint efforts of both institutions will successfully advance the activities of the Master Plan project.”
CDA Chairman Engineer Md. Nurul Karim stated, “The ‘Chattogram Metropolitan Master Plan’ is extremely important for the future development of the city. With the involvement of CUET’s experienced faculty and researchers in the vetting process, we are confident that the quality of the plan will be further enhanced. CUET’s academic expertise and research experience will significantly contribute to preparing a sustainable and practical development plan for our city.
