A major cyberattack has hit ‘Tea’, a women-focused dating safety app, leading to the unauthorized access of nearly 72,000 images. According to a TechCrunch report, the compromised data includes over 13,000 selfies and ID cards submitted for account verification, as well as 59,000 images from posts, comments, and private messages.

The app’s management clarified that no email addresses or phone numbers were exposed, and only users active before February 2024 were affected. They added, We are working with third-party cybersecurity experts and have already strengthened our security and resolved the issue.

Following the breach, 404 Media reported that users on imageboard site 4chan have been sharing some of the stolen materials online, raising further concerns over privacy and ethical usage.

Despite the controversy, the app—which recently gained viral popularity—continues to hold the top spot in the free category of the App Store this week.
