National High‑School Programming Contest 2025: Nurturing the Next‑Generation Nerds

As global demand for skilled programmers snowballs, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology is seeking to equip secondary and higher‑secondary pupils with the computational know‑how required for tomorrow’s tech‑centric world. Under that vision the ICT Division is staging the National High‑School Programming Contest (NHSPC) 2025.

The regional phase began on 28 May and, over the course of four weeks, swept through 16 public universities representing all 64 districts. Thousands of pupils registered online; only the best advanced. The champions of regional programming, quiz and chess events will now converge on the national finals, to be held 21 June at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) complex in Dhaka’s Khamarbari.

Morning coding rounds will run simultaneously at the University of Dhaka’s Institute of Information Technology and at the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC), after which contestants will be bussed to the main venue. Proceedings open at 08:00 with the national anthem and close in the afternoon with an awards gala. Throughout the day attendees may join sessions on artificial intelligence, cyber‑security and a cultural programme.

Chief guest will be Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Adviser in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and ICT; ICT Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury will serve as special guest. The ceremony will be chaired by BCC Executive Director Dr Muhammad Mehedi Hasan, with a welcome from BCC Director Md Zaforul Alam Khan. Professor Dr B M Moinul Hossain, Director of the University of Dhaka’s Institute of Information Technology, will deliver the keynote.

The regional tour opened on 28 May at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University and the University of Barishal. Subsequent heats followed at Cumilla University and DU‑IIT (29–30 May); Patuakhali Science and Technology University, the University of Rajshahi and Khulna University (16 June); Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, and Begum Rokeya University (17 June); and, finally, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Jessore University of Science and Technology, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology in Gopalganj, and Pabna University of Science and Technology (18 June).

NHSPC 2025 is organised by the Bangladesh Computer Council and the ICT Division, with implementation support from the Bangladesh Chess Federation, the EDGE project (Enhancing Digital Government and Economy), and the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA).
