Nagad Partners with Government to Disburse Family Card Allowances
Nagad has joined the government initiative to distribute Family Card allowances, a programme designed to strengthen the economic capacity and confidence of female heads of households.
Expressing gratitude to the head of government for including Nagad as a partner in the project, Muhammad Zahidul Islam, Head of Media and Communications at Nagad, extended special thanks on behalf of the Nagad family.
He said that the government’s renewed commitment to fulfilling promises made to the public within less than a month of assuming office has impressed them. “Being a partner in such an initiative of the government, the entire Nagad family expresses special gratitude and thanks to the head of government,” he added.
Under this programme—promised by the government before the election—financial assistance of Tk 2,500 per month will be provided to poor families in various districts and city corporation areas across the country. In the initial phase, the programme is being implemented in 15 wards across city corporations, municipalities, and several unions in 13 districts. A significant portion of the payments has already been distributed through Nagad.
Initially, information on 51,805 extremely poor and lower-middle-class families was collected. Later, through thorough field-level verification, beneficiaries receiving multiple government allowances were excluded, along with government employees and pensioners.
Under the project, priority has been given exclusively to families headed by women to enhance the economic empowerment of marginalised women in society. The government’s initiative is expected to serve as a milestone in improving the living standards of low-income people.
