Droidcon Dhaka Discusses Developer Deficit and Digital Future

The global Android app market continues to expand at a remarkable pace, with 137.8 billion apps and games downloaded worldwide in 2024. The industry is projected to exceed a market value of USD 623 billion by 2030. Yet, Bangladesh's share of Android developers remains notably low in comparison to global figures, with over 5.9 million developers active worldwide.

This observation was highlighted during the keynote session on the first day of Droidcon Bangladesh 2025, an international Android conference currently underway at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), in Dhaka.

The two-day event, which began Friday, features over 500 participants from home and abroad, with 25 international speakers contributing across more than 20 technical sessions. These sessions explore app development, career building, and the evolving role of Android technologies, with a strong emphasis on skill development and international market readiness.

The event hosts multiple keynotes, lightning talks, and open forums where local and international tech experts share insights on the shifting landscape of Android development. Speaking at the conference, Anam Ahmed, Vice President at Zellef, said, “The tech world is changing faster than we can imagine. We once prioritized coding and programming, but the future will see humanity identified as an AI-native generation. Participating in global conferences like this gives us a glimpse of that future.”

The second day of the conference, scheduled for Saturday, will feature discussions on Android security, the use of artificial intelligence in mobile testing, Kotlin Multiplatform, and engineering leadership. Participants include analysts, developers, and programmers from both local and international tech companies such as JetBrains, NativeWebs, Walt, Brain Station 23, Sheba, Pathao, and Zellef.

Droidcon last took place in Dhaka in 2017. This year’s edition in Bangladesh is part of a global series of events also held in cities like Berlin, San Francisco, London, and Nairobi. Commenting on the local significance, Mohi-us-Sunnat, Senior Android Engineer at Austria-based NativeWebs and organizer of the conference, stated, “This event helps emerging developers understand where they need to build competence. While the number of app developers in Bangladesh is low, the skills gap is an even bigger concern. We aim to highlight this reality to the next generation.”

Attendees include working professionals from tech firms, startup enthusiasts, developers, university students, founders, hiring managers, and tech-curious individuals from various industries.

The primary sponsor of the conference is Dynamic Solution Innovators Ltd. Brain Station 23 and Sheba serve as gold sponsors, while BDApps, JetBrains, and Agile Bangladesh join as community partners. The event is being held in collaboration with IUB’s IEEE Bangladesh Section and its Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), with TechByte Solutions as a co-organizer. The organizing entity behind the event is Sunnat629 Dev.
