Banglalink has emphasized the importance of equitable spectrum allocation and expanded low-band coverage to improve digital inclusion across Bangladesh. The Prime Advisor's Special Assistant on Posts, Telecommunications, and ICT Affairs, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, underscored the need to expand 700 MHz rural network coverage, reduce network congestion, and ensure a level playing field for all telecom operators. He also highlighted the strategic significance of optimal allocation and equitable distribution of sub-1 GHz low-band spectrum to achieve a truly connected and inclusive digital society.

These observations came during his visit to Banglalink’s corporate headquarters, Tiger’s Den, including the company’s Network Operations Center in Gulshan. The visit took place on Sunday, November 2, according to official sources.

Touring the live network monitoring facilities, Engr. Taiyeb expressed optimism that Banglalink’s network management initiatives would support reliable and affordable connectivity for customers nationwide.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, November 5, Banglalink noted that the discussion focused on how the operator continues working on AI-enabled innovations and enhanced connectivity, contributing to progress in digital and financial inclusion.

Banglalink’s management presented its ongoing investment strategy focused on network modernization, Quality of Service (QoS) enhancement, and internet speed improvements to ensure seamless service availability throughout the country. The operator also highlighted its initiatives to expand digital and financial services to underserved populations in line with national digitalization goals.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb praised Banglalink’s measures to strengthen network efficiency. He encouraged sustained public-private collaboration to improve spectrum utilization, foster fair competition, and enhance customer experiences across the telecom sector.

Banglalink CEO Ijohan Buse stated, “We appreciate the valuable guidance provided by the Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor. His emphasis on fair and efficient distribution of low-band spectrum, particularly in the 700 MHz band, is crucial for ensuring high-quality connectivity for every citizen of Bangladesh. Recognized globally as a ‘digital dividend band,’ this spectrum plays a vital role in expanding rural coverage, improving network performance, and delivering superior digital experiences. Unlocking its benefits will drive us closer to achieving the vision of a truly connected Bangladesh.”

Background: Significance of Sub-1 GHz Low-Band Spectrum
Sub-1 GHz low-band spectrum refers to radio frequencies below 1 GHz, such as 700 MHz, 433 MHz, 868 MHz, and 915 MHz. These frequencies provide wider area coverage and better penetration through buildings and physical barriers, making them essential for reliable connectivity in remote and rural regions. However, data speeds on these bands are generally lower than those on mid- or high-band frequencies.
