BOU Vice Chancellor’s Messaging Accounts Hacked, Public Warned Against Fraud

Professor Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam, Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University (BOU), announced on Thursday, June 12, that both his WhatsApp and Messenger accounts had been hacked. He shared the information through a public post on Facebook in the evening.
In his post, he wrote, “Dear friends, if anyone asks for money from my WhatsApp number or Messenger, please do not engage in any transaction. It seems my accounts have been hacked. Stay well, everyone.”
Efforts to contact Professor Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam by phone were unsuccessful, as his personal number appeared to be switched off.
Dr. Islam is a professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Dhaka. He also serves as the President of the University Teachers’ Association of Bangladesh (UTAB), and holds the position of Education Affairs Secretary in the central committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Additionally, he has served as the General Secretary of the Dhaka University Teachers’ Association and as the Convener of the White Panel, a group of BNP-aligned faculty members at the University of Dhaka.
Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University on September 12, 2024.
