Bangladesh Breakthrough: BMU Launches Nation’s First Robotic Rehab Center

Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) has inaugurated the country’s first-ever Robotic Rehabilitation Center, marking a milestone in the nation’s medical innovation and patient care. Equipped with 62 advanced robotic therapy units, including 22 AI-powered robots, the facility is capable of delivering high-quality rehabilitation treatment to nearly 300 patients daily.

The center aims to restore mobility and functionality for patients suffering from paralysis and other neurological impairments. Technologies include a robotic arm exoskeleton for regaining walking abilities, an intelligent balance simulator for those with spinal cord or brain injuries, and finger mobilizers and palm-glove therapy units to restore hand strength in patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome or hand paralysis.

Key technologies integrated into the units are the Robotic Gait Training System, Exoskeleton Therapy, Robotic Arm Rehabilitation Devices, AI-based Neurofeedback Systems, and Virtual Reality (VR) Therapy Platforms.

The Robotic Rehabilitation Center is scheduled to be officially inaugurated on Wednesday, May 20, by the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The event will be presided over by BMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Shahinul Alam, with Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum, Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen, and Health Secretary Dr. Md. Sarwar Bari among other senior officials in attendance.

According to BMU sources, all services at the center will be provided free of charge. Additionally, individuals injured or who actively participated in the July Revolution will be given treatment priority.
