Polytechnic Protest Planned: Students to Stage Peaceful Demonstrations Nationwide

The ‘Technical Students’ Movement, Bangladesh’ has announced a nationwide district-level peaceful assembly across all Polytechnic Institutes in the country on Sunday, April 20, at 11:00 a.m., to press for their six-point demand.

The announcement came in a statement signed by the organization’s acting Cell Secretary, Md. Sabbir Ahmed, on Saturday, April 19, at around 10:00 p.m.

According to the statement, “The peaceful assemblies will be held simultaneously at each district’s Polytechnic Institute starting from 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. The core objective of the program is to highlight the legitimate demands and challenges of the students without causing public inconvenience.”

The statement also noted that the district-level assembly in Dhaka will take place on the new road in Agargaon, adjacent to the Women’s Polytechnic Institute.

Earlier on Saturday afternoon, Polytechnic students held a symbolic protest titled Rise in Red. On Friday evening, they staged a protest march with burial shrouds tied around their heads, symbolizing their dissatisfaction and urgency.

Although a meeting was held on Thursday between student representatives and the Additional Secretary of the Technical and Madrasa Education Division under the Ministry of Education, the students expressed dissatisfaction with the outcomes.

Previously, on Wednesday, April 17, students from both public and private Polytechnic Institutes blocked the road at Dhaka’s Satrasta intersection from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in support of their six-point demand.
