Opera has unveiled a new artificial intelligence (AI) agent for its browser, named "Browser Operator," designed to autonomously perform various web-based tasks for users. TechCrunch reports that the AI assistant will enable users to complete online actions seamlessly across different websites.

A demo video showcased the AI agent’s ability to search for socks on Walmart, book football match tickets, and find flights and hotels on Booking.com. Opera has announced that the feature will soon be made available to users through its Feature Drop Program.

It remains unclear whether Browser Operator will function only on specific websites or if it will support complex searches across multiple platforms. However, Opera has emphasized that the AI operates entirely on-device, making it more secure than cloud-based browsers or virtual machines.

The competition in AI-powered browser assistants is rapidly intensifying. OpenAI has introduced its own "Operator" for ChatGPT Pro users, while The Browser Company has announced its upcoming "Dua Browser." Additionally, Perplexity is set to launch a new browser called "Comet" soon.
