Global e-commerce giant Amazon has officially announced a groundbreaking text-based shopping feature for its artificial intelligence-powered shopping assistant, 'Alexa for Shopping'. With this new feature, customers in the United States will be able to find their preferred products and complete purchases directly by sending text or chat messages, without having to speak or use voice commands.

Modern Text Shopping Features and How They Work

The new feature will allow users to easily assess the quality of different products, conduct comparative analyses of multiple items, and keep track of the best market prices and available discounts or deals. By analysing users' specific preferences and previous purchasing history, Alexa will even be able to finalise orders on their behalf.

Amazon said the beta testing of the service has already begun with a limited number of selected customers in the United States, ahead of its wider commercial rollout in the coming weeks.

Market Competition and the Strategy to Expand Market Dominance

It is worth noting that Amazon recently blocked third-party AI shopping agents, such as Meta's 'Muse' and Perplexity's 'Comet', from accessing its online marketplace, citing data protection and security concerns.

Technology analysts believe that Amazon's strategic move to introduce its own AI-powered text shopping service immediately afterwards will further strengthen the company's dominant position in the retail e-commerce market.
