The Badhon Zonal Council of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) celebrated the 29th anniversary of Badhon, a voluntary blood donors’ organisation, under the slogan “A Call for Twenty-Nine Years, Let Lives Be Saved Through Blood Donation.”
The celebration began with a rally at 4:30 pm on Friday, October 30, 2026. A cake-cutting ceremony and discussion meeting followed at the university’s TSC Mini Conference Room.
Professor G M Mujibur Rahman, student affairs adviser at BAU, attended the programme as the chief guest. Special guests included the university’s Proctor, Professor Dr Md Abdul Alim, and Associate Student Affairs Adviser Professor Dr Md Shahidul Islam.
In his speech, Professor G M Mujibur Rahman said, “We all know that a healthy person should donate blood regularly at intervals of three to four months. This special event has been organised to promote that noble initiative. One of the most encouraging aspects of today’s programme is that women and female students have come forward in greater numbers than male students, and their active participation has helped make the event a success. Everyone should come forward for this noble humanitarian work, because a single drop of your blood can save a critically ill person’s life.”
Abir, who donated blood for the first time, said, “Blood donation is one of the noblest acts in the world. At a critical moment, a single bag of blood can bring a smile to an entire family. I will try to donate blood regularly, and I urge everyone else to do the same and stand beside people in need.”
Taqi Tahmid Uday, assistant general secretary of Badhon’s Fazlul Haque Hall unit, said, “I am truly proud to be part of such a noble cause through Badhon. Alongside donating blood myself, I also help arrange blood for patients. When I see a family smile because of that support, I feel that the time I have invested has been worthwhile.”
In his concluding remarks, Redwan Hasan Sabbir, president of Badhon’s BAU Zonal Council, said, “Since its beginning, Badhon has fearlessly dedicated itself to helping critically ill patients who need blood and serving people affected by disasters. The selfless dedication and hard work of our young volunteers and blood donors have made Badhon a trusted symbol of humanity. I firmly believe that this bond built through blood donation will continue to guide people through difficult times in the days ahead.”
