Instagram Tests New ‘Features’ Video Format Supporting Videos Up to 90 Minutes

Popular photo and video-sharing platform Instagram is testing a new video format called “Features” to support long-form video content. The format will allow creators to upload horizontal videos up to 90 minutes long.

The feature is initially being tested with selected content creators and podcasters in the United States and Brazil. The initiative represents a major strategic move by Meta to retain creators of full-length podcast episodes, shows, and video documentaries on its platform.

A Seamless Transition from Short-Form to Long-Form Video

Instagram Vice President of Product Tessa Lyons and head Adam Mosseri have shared details of the new video initiative. Under the proposed system, short clips or teasers from full-length videos will first appear in the Explore tab or Reels feed. Viewers will then be able to tap the newly introduced “Watch Full Video” button to watch the entire 90-minute video directly within the Instagram app, without switching to another application.

Expansion to Television Screens and Other Platforms

Although the feature is being introduced through the mobile app, Instagram plans to strengthen its long-form video offering within the Instagram for TV ecosystem.

The app's availability is also being expanded to Apple TV, alongside Samsung, Amazon Fire TV, and Google TV. The feature could be officially rolled out to general users in the United States by the end of this year or early next year.
