State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku stated that relevant scientists and researchers must play an effective role in fully meeting the livestock sector's vaccine demand through domestic production. Raising this production to one hundred percent would save national funds while reducing import dependency, which makes 100% domestic production of livestock vaccines imperative.

The State Minister made these remarks as the chief guest at a discussion meeting held at the conference room of the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) on Thursday afternoon, October 29, 2026.

The State Minister stated that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is placing special emphasis on the development of the fisheries and livestock sector. Important initiatives for the sector's development were taken during the tenure of late President Ziaur Rahman, which later received significant focus during the administration of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

He stated that fisheries and livestock have no alternative in strengthening the national economy, making marginalized communities self-reliant, and meeting the animal protein demands of the people. Therefore, importance must be given to increasing production and creating entrepreneurs to harness the sector's potential.

Sultan Salahuddin Tuku stated that the current government places special importance on developing the fisheries and livestock sector. To utilize this sector's potential, governmental institutional capacities must be enhanced, and research outcomes must be applied to production and field levels.

Addressing BLRI scientists and officials, the State Minister stated that there are ample opportunities to advance the country's livestock sector through research and innovation. Everyone must work responsibly and ensure the practical application of research.

The State Minister further stated that the public expects every state institution to operate according to rules and laws, allowing everyone to enjoy their rights. Fulfilling this expectation requires government officials to perform their duties with honesty, dedication, and professionalism, contributing to national development from their respective positions. During his visit, State Minister Sultan Salahuddin Tuku inspected the Central Cattle Breeding and Dairy Farm located in Savar, Dhaka.

He stated that everyone must work for the country's interest by embracing the spirit of 'Bangladesh First'. He urged collective efforts in research, innovation, and institutional capacity building to construct an advanced and prosperous Bangladesh for future generations.

In response to a journalist's question, the State Minister stated that increasing the export of livestock products abroad after meeting domestic demand is one of the government's major goals. Export activities have already commenced, and as part of expanding this work, hatching eggs have been exported to Nigeria.

He stated that the government places high importance on ensuring food security and protecting animal and human health, noting that the 'One Health' concept is extremely crucial in this regard.

Delivering speech as a special guest, Professor Dr. S. M. Abdul-Awal, Principal Coordinator for SDG Affairs at the Prime Minister's Office, stated that long-term and realistic research projects must be undertaken to meet public nutritional demands, increase livestock production, and reduce import dependency. In this context, determining national priorities and ensuring the optimal use of limited resources is essential. He urged initiatives to increase livestock production by utilizing alternative lands and resources without wasting agricultural land.

Chaired by BLRI Director General Dr. Shakila Farooq, the event was attended by Department of Livestock Services Director General Md. Shahjaman Khan along with senior officials of BLRI. Later, the State Minister inspected the cattle research farm, sheep research farm, and the Central Cattle Breeding and Dairy Farm located in Savar.
