Dispute Over Free Offer
F-Commerce Outlet Sparks Chaotic Opening
- Misleading social media marketing sparks unrest at lifestyle outlet
- Police intervention secures venue and halts store launch operations
- Customers allege deceptive digital advertising over concealed promotion conditions
Disruptions surrounding digital engagement tactics and social media marketing unfolded in the capital's Pallabi as lifestyle brand 'Live Shopping' launched its physical retail venue.
The incident occurred on Friday, September 11, 2026, when a viral 'free shopping' campaign drew crowds, triggering altercations, property damage, and operational collapse at the outlet.
According to Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hasan Basir, the online advertisement promoted 'free shopping' while obscuring promotional terms behind an abbreviated 'CA' or 'conditions apply' notation. Influxes of digital followers gathered at the location, leading to clashes with store staff. Police personnel intervened, dispersed the gathering, and shuttered the premises to restore order.
At approximately 4:00 PM, the business broadcast an alert via its official Facebook page, alleging that organized groups infiltrated the site to instigate mob attacks and property theft during the launch. Conversely, prospective shoppers stated that the digital advertising masked critical eligibility terms to artificially generate physical footfall. Consumers described the unannounced promotional restrictions as deceptive marketing.
Following discussions between retail management and law enforcement, operations were suspended for the day.
