- Bangladesh-Japan joint seminar hosted at JATI on civil case delays
- Focus on ADR and tech integration to expedite long-pending civil suits
- Japan pledges continued support for Bangladesh's judicial reforms
Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman stated that the government has undertaken effective measures to resolve the long-standing backlog of civil cases in the country. He noted that various reformatory initiatives are being executed to make the judicial process faster, more efficient, and user-friendly, emphasizing that international cooperation and experience-sharing are vital to achieving this goal.
He made these remarks as the chief guest on Wednesday (July 29) at a special seminar titled 'Mitigating Delays in Resolving Civil Cases: Joint Experience of Bangladesh and Japan,' organized jointly by the Law and Judiciary Division and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at the Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) in the capital. The Law Minister highlighted that lingering civil suits exacerbate the distress of litigants and strain the judicial system. To overcome this, the government is focusing on modernizing the judiciary, expanding Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), and deploying technology-driven judicial services.
Speaking as a special guest, Kazunori Nose, Deputy Director General of the International Cooperation Department at Japan's Ministry of Justice, assured that Japan’s support for enhancing the capacity of Bangladesh's judiciary will continue in the future. Keynote speakers Senior Assistant Secretary of the Law and Justice Division Syed Md. Shafaet and Professor Wakazono Rei of Japan's Ministry of Justice presented comparative analyses and technology-backed strategies for fast-tracking case disposals. Presiding over the event, Project Director and Additional Secretary Md. Khademul Kayes assured that recommendations from the seminar regarding technology integration will be evaluated for prompt implementation.
Law secretary Liakat Ali Mollah and representatives from judicial institutions, the Law Ministry, and the Attorney General's Office actively participated in the proceedings.
