Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Trains Farmers in Technology-Based Ginger and Onion Cultivation

Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) has organized a technology-based agricultural training programme to help increase the income and financial stability of marginal farmers. The programme titled “Ginger Cultivation in Sacks and Onion Production for Improving the Financial Well-being of Marginal Farmers” was held on Sunday at the Keraniganj Agricultural Training Centre in Dhaka.

The training was arranged by the university’s Department of Extension Activities. SAU Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Belal Hossain attended the programme as the chief guest, while Keraniganj Upazila Agriculture Officer Mahua Sharmin Munmun was present as the special guest.

The training sessions were conducted by Md. Shariful Islam, Additional Deputy Director (Crop) of the Department of Agricultural Extension, and Md. Nasir Uddin, Monitoring Officer and Additional Director (On Deputation) of the B-Strong Project.

The programme was chaired by Professor Dr. Mohammad Jamshed Alam, Director of the Department of Extension Activities at SAU. He said similar initiatives would continue in the future to strengthen the rural economy through skill development and technology-driven agricultural extension services.

Speaking at the event, Professor Dr. Md. Belal Hossain said that sack-based ginger cultivation and improved onion production methods can be profitable and sustainable options for marginal farmers with limited land resources. He added that the adoption of modern agricultural technologies can reduce production costs, increase farmers’ income and create new employment opportunities.

Participants received practical training on ginger cultivation in sacks, improved onion production techniques, application of modern agricultural technologies and effective marketing strategies for agricultural products.

According to the organizers, the main objective of the programme is to promote sustainable agricultural development through wider adoption of technology and improved farming skills among rural communities.
