AI, Cybersecurity Now Core to National Security and Global Competitiveness: Swapan
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has said that artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and digital capability are no longer merely technological issues, but have become key prerequisites for national security, policymaking, and survival in global competition.
He warned that if a country falls behind in digital capability, national policy frameworks, security strategies, and critical information systems could easily come under threat in the future.
He made these remarks on Tuesday, 19 May, in the afternoon at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) headquarters in Dhaka, while speaking at a seminar titled “Cyber Security and Threat Intelligence” organized by the Young Engineers Chapter of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB).
The minister said the world is rapidly entering an era driven by artificial intelligence. In this context, he stressed that for Bangladesh to remain competitive, it is essential to develop skilled human resources, integrate digital knowledge into academic curricula, and ensure deep understanding of technology at the policymaking level.
He also urged technologists and researchers to make not only the general public but also policymakers aware of technological realities and potential risks.
The minister emphasized identifying capable young talents from across the country and training them as experts in advanced technology and digital security sectors.
The keynote paper at the seminar was presented by Engineer Md. Redwan Zaman Anik. The welcome speech was delivered by IEB General Secretary Sabbir Mostafa Khan.
The seminar was chaired by Engineer Md. Tofazzel Hossain, Chairman of the IEB Young Engineers Chapter. Among others present were IEB President Engineer Md. Riajul Islam Riju and Engineer Shahrin Islam Tuhin.
