Digital Land Drive: PM Launches Nationwide Bhumi Sheba Fair 2026
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has inaugurated the three-day nationwide “Bhumi Sheba Fair-2026.” Alongside the national-level Land Service Fair, fair activities were launched simultaneously through virtual connectivity at divisional, district, upazila and revenue circle levels across the country. The hybrid event was chaired by Mizanur Rahman Minu. This year’s theme is: “Citizen-Friendly Automated Land Management, Secure Land and a Prosperous Future.”
On Tuesday, 19 May, at the inauguration ceremony held at Bhumi Bhaban in Tejgaon of the capital, the Prime Minister pledged to reduce public suffering and simplify services further through technology-driven land management. After formally inaugurating the fair, he visited various stalls along with cabinet members, senior officials and other concerned individuals.
He said that citizens can now pay land development taxes online, access e-mutation services and receive other land-related services from home. To simplify these services, 893 Land Service Assistance Centers have already been launched in 61 districts across the country. Plans have also been taken to gradually establish similar Land Service Assistance Centers in every union nationwide. In addition, the mobile application “Bhumi” has been introduced to bring land services directly into the hands of citizens.
In his speech as the chief guest, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said land is the foundation of people’s security, livelihood and future. As land ownership and distribution change over time, the importance of preserving and updating land records has increased significantly.
He said the more modern and technology-driven the land management system becomes, the easier it will be to resolve land-related disputes. Ensuring online facilities in land management will significantly reduce public suffering related to land issues. Technology-driven management will reduce land disputes and curb the dominance of middlemen.
He further stated that most of the more than 4.7 million cases currently pending in courts are related to land disputes. Therefore, greater importance should be given to alternative dispute resolution methods such as village courts, mediation and arbitration.
Addressing officials and employees of the Ministry of Land, the Prime Minister said providing services is the right of the people. The government is working to establish a corruption-free, harassment-free and citizen-friendly land management system.
The fair, which has begun in districts and upazilas across the country, is offering services including e-mutation, online payment of land development tax, collection of khatiyan, record correction and complaint resolution.
