World Bank Warns Against Loan Scams
The World Bank has warned that it does not provide loans directly to individuals and does not seek anyone’s personal financial information, urging the public to remain vigilant against fraud.
The warning was issued in a press release sent to the media on Thursday, January 8. According to the statement, reports have recently emerged in Bangladesh of fraudulent activities being carried out using the World Bank’s name and logo. In this context, the World Bank cautioned the public against scams that promise loans from the institution in exchange for fees.
The press release emphasized that the World Bank does not offer direct loans to individuals and never asks for personal or financial information.
It further stated that fraudsters are using the World Bank’s name and mobile financial services to extort money by creating fake Facebook pages, false IDs, and employing other deceptive tactics. Anyone who encounters such fraudulent activities has been urged to immediately contact local authorities.
The World Bank also clarified that it has no involvement whatsoever in any such schemes or projects.
