Government Launches Hotline to Halt Hoaxes, Misinformation
The government has launched a dedicated hotline service to curb rumours, misinformation, and disinformation at national, institutional, and individual levels. From now on, citizens can report any related complaints by calling 01308332592 or by emailing [email protected].
The information was confirmed through a message posted on Monday (January 5) on the verified Facebook page of the Chief Adviser.
Earlier, on December 28, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus issued special instructions to the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) during a meeting of the National Cyber Security Council, directing it to ensure comprehensive cyber security ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary election and referendum.
At the meeting, Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, said that 35 institutions have already been designated as Critical Information Infrastructure (CII). For security reasons, there are plans to include more key institutions in this list.
He further noted that rumours and cybercrime are likely to increase centring the upcoming elections. To prevent such threats, special emphasis has been placed on close coordination between the National Cyber Security Agency and the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
