Bangladesh’s National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy will be finalized before the upcoming national election, even though it may not be completed within the originally targeted timeline, ICT Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury has said.

Responding to journalists’ questions, the ICT secretary noted that work on the AI policy is already at an advanced stage. “We are working on the AI policy, and it has reached a certain level. Our initial target was to complete it before the beginning of 2026. That may not happen, but you will definitely get it before the election,” he said.

He added that several policy initiatives are underway following the passage of four laws under the ICT Ministry. “After these four laws were enacted, we started working on multiple policies. Among them, the source code policy is at its final stage. Work on the AI policy is also ongoing. In addition, we are working on a blockchain policy and several other policies,” the secretary said.

Shish Haider Chowdhury made these remarks on Monday, December 29, during a press conference held at the ICT Tower in Agargaon, Dhaka, marking the upcoming Digital Device and Innovation Expo 2026.

Also present at the press conference were Managing Director and Additional Secretary of the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority Md. Mamunur Rashid Bhuiyan, Member (Investment and Park Coordination) of the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority and Joint Secretary Mohammad Saiful Hasan, and Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) President Mohammad Zahurul Islam.
