Renewable energy innovations and collaborative initiatives took center stage at a day-long conference titled “Innovations and Partnerships for Sustainable Energy Transition” held at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB), Dhaka. The event, jointly organized by SEMS-Global and GIZ Bangladesh, highlighted integrated efforts, innovation, and responsible investment aimed at fostering a sustainable and environmentally friendly energy sector in Bangladesh.

Representatives from development agencies, policymakers, financial institutions, academia, and the private sector attended the conference, emphasizing the need for coordinated action, innovation, and responsible investments to drive Bangladesh towards a low-carbon, energy-efficient future.

The conference was held alongside the 27th Power Bangladesh International Expo 2025, the 22nd Solar Bangladesh International Expo 2025, and the 7th Dhaka International Lighting Expo 2025, collectively known as the 27th Power Series of Exhibitions. Organized by SEMS-Global, the Power Series of Exhibitions serves as the largest international platform in the country for electricity generation, renewable energy, and modern lighting technologies.

Speakers repeatedly highlighted Germany’s longstanding development cooperation. Through GIZ Bangladesh, Germany has been supporting the expansion of renewable energy, grid integration, energy efficiency in industry and infrastructure, e-mobility, and green skills development in Bangladesh.

Emphasizing accelerated energy transition, participants discussed the importance of policy dialogue, capacity building, technical assistance, and innovation. They stressed reducing fossil fuel dependency and fostering a green, resilient, and inclusive energy future while enabling local skilled personnel to lead this transformation.

“Renewable energy, grid integration, industrial energy efficiency, e-mobility, and green skills development through GIZ Bangladesh represent Germany’s vital contribution to our energy sector,” speakers noted. They added, “Reducing fossil fuel dependence to build a green, resilient, and inclusive energy future remains the central goal of this collaboration.”

The conference featured four thematic sessions:

  • Session One: Focused on green cooling technology, renewable energy expansion, and enhancing energy efficiency in the industrial sector.

  • Session Two: Representatives from the World Bank, BRAC, and ILO stressed the urgent need to develop youth skills for entering the green economy.

  • Session Three: Explored private investment and innovative business models to expand rooftop solar energy projects.

  • Session Four: Industry leaders, including representatives from City Bank, the European Union in Bangladesh, IB Vogt APAC, BPDB, and H&M, discussed the role of CPPA in ensuring affordable, reliable green energy in industry.

The conference concluded that a combined effort by the government, development agencies, and the private sector is essential to drive Bangladesh swiftly towards a sustainable and resilient energy future. Renewable energy expansion, green financing, skill development, and policy reform were highlighted as key levers to achieve an energy-secure, green future.

Reaffirming their commitment, SEMS-Global and GIZ Bangladesh pledged to continue accelerating Bangladesh’s energy transition through innovation, capacity building, and effective policy dialogue.
