SUST has expelled 12 activists of banned student body Chhatra League for life
SUST Students Suspended: Syndicate Sanctions Lifetime Expulsions
The Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has expelled 12 leaders and activists of the banned student body Chhatra League for life, along with 17 others for varying terms, on charges of attacking students during the anti-discrimination student movement between July 15 and August 5.
The decision was confirmed by the university’s Proctor, Professor Muklesur Rahman, following the institution’s 237th Syndicate meeting.
Regarding the expulsions, the Proctor stated, “Twelve students have been expelled for life for attacking protesting students, and another eight students have been permanently expelled for storing weapons in their rooms. In addition, 17 students have been expelled for periods ranging from two to four semesters. The charges against 19 accused students could not be proven, and their cases have been disposed of.”
Although he did not disclose the names, sources confirmed that those expelled for life include SUST Chhatra League President Khalilur Rahman and General Secretary Sajibur Rahman.
Others expelled for life include Elias Sani and Farhan Hossain Chowdhury of the Department of Anthropology, Tarek Hasan of Sociology, Shimul Mia of Political Studies, Habibur Rahman Habib of Statistics, Yusuf Hossain Titu of Bangla, Lokman Hossain of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Syed Maj Jowardi and Saim Khan of Physics, and Mujahidul Islam Saimon of Petroleum and Mining Engineering. All were reportedly affiliated with Chhatra League.
Separately, seven students have been permanently expelled for possession of weapons and narcotics in residential halls. They include Mamun Mia of Public Administration, Amit Saha of Statistics, Tarikul Islam of Business Administration, Ashiqur Rahman Ashiq of Political Studies, Mahbubur Rahman of Statistics, Marbin Dolly Ricky of Oceanography, and Shanto Tara Adnan of Sociology.
