Australia has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity and climate resilience in Bangladesh. The country is emphasizing the development of sustainable agricultural and food systems in vulnerable coastal areas affected by climate change.

Clinton Pobb, Australia’s Deputy High Commissioner to Bangladesh, provided the assurance during a workshop in Dhaka this week focused on developing climate-resilient and sustainable agricultural and food systems. A press release from the Australian High Commission in Dhaka on Wednesday, September 24, reported the update.

Speaking at the event, Pobb said, “Australia will continue its ongoing cooperation with Bangladesh to prevent environmental degradation and address the impacts of climate change on agriculture.”

The workshop highlighted contributions from various projects funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). In collaboration with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), these projects aim to establish climate-resilient crop production systems and promote sustainable agricultural practices in Bangladesh’s saline-prone coastal regions.

These initiatives are designed to help local farmers adapt to climate change, increase agricultural productivity, and ensure long-term food security. The projects also form part of Australia’s broader efforts to strengthen Bangladesh’s agricultural sector and contribute to global climate action programs.
