ECNEC Approves DEPT Infrastructure Upgrade
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved a Tk 866.55 crore project for infrastructure development at Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur. The decision was made during an ECNEC meeting on Wednesday, September 17, aimed at modernizing DUET’s laboratories and expanding necessary infrastructure. The project is scheduled for completion by June 2029.
Under the project, housing facilities will be created for 1,600 new students, laboratories for approximately 3,500 students will be modernized, and internationally standard research centers will be established. Additionally, the plan includes enhanced security, improved inter-campus connectivity, and upward expansion of five existing buildings.
The ECNEC meeting, chaired by Chief Adviser and ECNEC Chair Dr. Muhammad Yunus, was held at the NEC Conference Hall in the Planning Commission premises. During the session, a total of 13 projects worth Tk 8,333.28 crore were approved, including seven new projects, five revised projects, and one project with an extended timeline without increased costs.
The meeting was attended by Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud, Finance and Science & Technology Adviser Dr. Saleh Uddin Ahmed, Home and Agriculture Adviser Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.), Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Tauhid Hossain, Liberation War, Disaster Management & Relief Adviser Faruq E. Azam, Education Adviser Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Industry and Housing & Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Power, Energy & Mineral Resources, Road Transport & Bridges, and Railway Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Environment, Forest & Climate Change, and Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, along with relevant officials.
