Disney Pays $10M Over Children’s Video Data Breach

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has announced that Disney will pay $10 million to settle allegations of collecting data from children’s videos, Engadget reported.

According to the complaint, certain videos created for children on YouTube were not properly flagged as "made for kids," allowing the collection of data from viewers under the age of 13 and enabling targeted advertising.

Under the FTC’s proposed order, Disney has been directed to establish a review process to ensure such videos are correctly labeled in the future.

YouTube had introduced the tagging system in 2019 following a $170 million settlement. Just last month, Google faced a similar penalty of $30 million for related violations.
