Amazon Axes Prime Invite Program, Alters Access Rules

Amazon has announced that it will discontinue its Prime Invite program, which allowed users to share free shipping benefits with people outside their households, according to Engadget.
The company’s updated support page states that the service will officially end on October 1, with invitees notified by September 5.
Amazon clarified that users who do not reside at the same address as the primary account holder will now need to create their own Prime accounts. For the first year, they will be offered the service at a discounted rate of $14.99 per month, after which the standard monthly rate will apply.
The company has recommended that customers use the Amazon Family program to continue sharing Prime benefits within the same household. Through this program, two adults and up to four children can access the perks under a single account.
