Baidu Unveils Two New AI Models, Promises Advanced Logical Analysis
Chinese technology giant Baidu has introduced two new artificial intelligence (AI) models, one of which is particularly adept at logical reasoning and analysis. The company claims that the newly launched "ERNIE X1" model delivers performance comparable to DeepSeek R1, but at nearly half the cost. Baidu further asserts that ERNIE X1 can autonomously analyze, plan, and make decisions, making it a distinctive addition to the AI landscape, according to a report by The Verge.
In addition, Baidu has unveiled its latest foundational model, "ERNIE 4.5", which boasts enhanced linguistic capabilities and improved multimodal understanding. This model is designed to process text, video, images, and audio simultaneously, while also demonstrating improved memory, reasoning, and information generation.
Baidu originally introduced its "ERNIE" series to compete with other Chinese AI companies, including DeepSeek, and to challenge OpenAI’s ChatGPT-style models. While the company has claimed that its AI models are on par with GPT-4, widespread adoption remains a challenge. The impact of these new models on Baidu’s position in the AI market remains to be seen.
