Election Education via YouTube
Amid preparations for the upcoming elections, the Election Commission (EC) has launched its official YouTube channel. Through this platform, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has issued a cautionary message to the nation regarding artificial intelligence (AI).
The EC’s Public Relations wing stated on Thursday night, 21 August, that the channel will provide reliable and easily understandable information about voter registration, election schedules, candidates’ responsibilities, and voters’ rights and duties. The channel will regularly release content to raise public awareness about the electoral process.
In a message to the nation on the commission’s official YouTube channel, the CEC said, “Welcome everyone to the Commission’s official YouTube channel. We are officially launching this channel today. Through this, all election-related information will be presented to the people in a reliable, simple, and detailed manner. Our content will primarily include voter registration, election schedules, candidates’ responsibilities, and information on voters’ duties and obligations.”
He added, “Our main objective is to involve women, youth, persons with disabilities, and marginalized communities in the core electoral process. We want them to contribute consciously to the country’s democratic development. Public trust and transparency in the electoral system are crucial for a free, fair, and acceptable election. We aim to present information in a detailed, understandable, and credible manner to strengthen both public confidence and our transparency.”
Addressing emerging challenges, the CEC remarked, “Recently, a significant challenge has surfaced—the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI). Videos containing false or fabricated information are being circulated on social media.”
He urged, “Do not believe or share any information without verification.” He further appealed, “Let us all unite to combat misinformation. The Election Commission seeks everyone’s cooperation to counter the spread of false information on social media.”
